I was recently cleaning out a neighbors garage and came upon what looks to be a mauser 98, less the stock. From what I can tell it still has all matching numbers. Does anyone know how I would be able to find out it's value. It has the symbol of an eagle holding a swastika. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any other symbols besides the Nazi eagle? If there are skulls with crossbones, known as a totenkopf symbol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Totenkopf), it will be worth more as it is an SS rifle. Pre-war Mausers are made to better standards, and WWII Mausers that saw action will have more collectibilty. You'll have to get it appraised to have a more accurate value though. The condition of the bore will also lower or raise the price of your gun.
Oh yes, please post pics of the gun, especially the receiver.
Hope I helped.http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...almonfai3l.jpg

Yeah, there really are too many variations and variables to really give a price based on just what type of action it is.
I must admit I am interested and a PM is inbound.quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est. - Lucius Annaeus

Were any Mauser 98s marked with the Totenkopf, SS runes, etc? I know the k98s were, but I am not sure if the Mauser 98s had any (of course I wouldn't put it past them to have some rare oddity that did).quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est. - Lucius Annaeus

Well, he did say it was marked with Nazi waffenamts (eagle over swastika), so I can only assume it is a Kar98k, so therefore it may have Schutzstaffel markings.http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...almonfai3l.jpg

The first thing I'd look for is a Import mark! If it doesn't have one, then that's when I'd spend hours and hours on the internet looking around for info.
