    Remington 1903-A4 Restoration completed

Or at least mostly so for the time being. I thought I would start a new thread showing the 'A4 after receiving the refinished barrel and receiver.

Just to reiterate where I started from on this thing, A couple of months ago I bought a heavily sporterized '03-A4:

Today I received the barreled receiver back from Warpath Vintage and tossed the rifle back together:

Most of the parts are NOS items that I have either had kicking around for a while or I picked up for this project. Some of the things I still need to get in order to make it a bit more correct are a Weaver 330C scope (the one on it is a 330), a WWII sling to replace the post war one on it and a NOS blued small bow trigger guard.

Super sexxy. What are these things worth with scope and all? I've been wanting one but just don't know where to get one without getting ripped.

It's hard to say exactly. A pretty nice arsenal rebuilt one sold on gunbroker for $4525 recently. A Rock Ridge reproduction of a '03-A4 using a 'A3 action and a new made barrel sold for $2000 with some pretty spirited bidding.

Asking prices for most real 'A4's seems to start at around five grand on Gunbroker and go up from there, although I don't see them actually selling at those high prices.

As for getting ripped off, that is the real problem nowadays with anything that is valuable, there are always scumbags that are trying to steal your money. As a buyer, your best bet is to educate yourself as much as possible.

Realistically, there are going to be very few original 1903-A4 sniper rifles that haven't been rebuilt or reworked at some point in their existence. How much and who exactly did the work is going to determine the actual value.

Outstanding work bringing her back to glory days. Have you shot it yet? I'm interested to see what accuracy you'll be getting

That is absolutely amazing. I own my dad’s sporterized O3A3 he had since the late 50s. It has I think a Williams rear peep. You turned a run of the mill $400ish gun into a real tribute to an A4. I know very little about them so if yours isn’t exact I wouldn’t notice.
Here’s Forgotten Weapons talking about the Private Ryan “A4”. The discrepancies he mentioned are over my head. I think he said a Lyman Alaskan scope is used. I have one of those on my 75 year old Savage 99 and have another Alaskan laying around here somewhere.

My 03A4 has a B series serial number Lyman Alaskan scope on it. I've heard through a number of sources that the B series serial numbers were actually GI issue.

Excellent looking rifle and it is nice to see it de-sporterized! Chuck does good work!

Nice project HP. You're probably going to turn some heads at the range.

                      That is an awesome rifle.

I’ve been wanting to do the same but even sporterized 03-A3s are getting up there.

Looks like this might be an option to scratch that itch. HPs is just majestic though. I've been staring at this thread all day.

Not yet. I just put it together yesterday and I have a bunch of things that I need to get done around the place in between rainstorms.

Realistically, I expect it is going to be several weeks before I can get out to the range and run some ammo through it

I have a lot of old .30-06 military ammo in boxes and a full bandoleer my dad had since the early 60s or longer and also old reloads his friend reloaded from who knows when. I would love to shoot that stuff in my (his) sporterized 03A3 but I?m too scared to try it.

Keep us updated on how she shoots when you are able to get to the range. Again, really well done restoring the rifle!!
