    Garand Stock Replacement, Still C&R?

As I understand, a C&R firearm will retain its C&R status after modifications that do not "substantially" alter its original configuration. So an M1 Garand can have its metal and wood parts replaced, even with after market items such as a CMP new stock set, and still remain a C&R, whereas a "Tanker" modified rifle is no longer considered a C&R. So what about replacing a standard Garand stock set with an after market laminated wood set that retains the traditional form and accepts all the original military metal? Is this within the requirements to retain C&R status? Also, what about hard chroming metal parts? TIA for informed opinions!

yes the Garand still retians it's C&R status if you swap out the old stock with a laminate set...hard croming the metal wil not affect it's status as well...but as a purist of Garands I have to ask.. why the hardcrome?

Thanks for the response. As for hard chrome, I suppose it might prove of actual use for some high wear sliding parts, such as the bolt, but I had more in mind the metal on the laminated wood stock, strictly for looks. Yup, a "Range Tart"!

You can still put on a laminate stock set and not make it look like a range tart

But what's the fun in that? Remember, if you've got it, flaunt it!
