How to report CMP garand shipped to your door with FFL03/COE

    Hey all,

So we all know there's lots of debate about the legality of receiving shipped rifles to ffl03/COE holders. But I wanted to ask a question about reporting to those who have recently bought a garand from the CMP, had it shipped to their door, and filed their report through CFARS

I'm just wondering how you go about it in general? Which form do you use, in state or out of state?

What name do you put down when they ask who you got it from?

Thinking of buying a garand since the next batch of Service Grades are out, so this information would be very much appreciated.

I know people still self report from places like the CMP and Simpson's, so I'd love to know how the reporting is done.

    Thank you all,
    Fitty

Just fill out the form as you would if you bought out of state and brought the gun home. No hassle.

I bought my Garand 18 years ago from CMP. Were we supposed to file paperwork after delivery back then too?

That is exactly what I have done in the past. I fill out the form as if I bought them from Alabama. I have registered 8 from them in the past 4 years.

        Good luck,

        Jay

That will work - meaning they will process it and not actually ask any questions or look into it. They just assume everything you put in the form is accurate, or that you are using the correct form to begin with. Because they know you are filling it out "under penalty of perjury". So they do trust you. But I'm still of the opinion - don't be fooled into thinking that them accepting your form is any proof that what you did was technically legal. Just because they don't investigate it, doesn't mean it was right. It may never be discovered, or even have any way to know, but it could happen. What do you do if the rifle disappears in transit? Stolen at a hub? Then police recover it. It'll trace back to CMP who will absolutely tell them they shipped it direct to you. You can say you never got it, but good luck explaining that.
Personally I'd just have them ship to an 01. Then use the 03 to skip the 10 day wait. Did that with the 1911 (because CMP required it, for those), but it's a simple thing. Yes most FFLs charge an extra fee, so there is more cost. But safe. As all things in life, judge your own risks.

            No.
            2023-18 = 2005

The requirement to report C&R long guns started on 01-01-2014.
