Salvaging bubba's SKS

I bought an all matching Chinese SKS (factory 316) for a very good price, however the previous owner ground off the bayonet lug, which would normally be a deal breaker for me, however I felt adventurous at the time. One 50 ton press, penetrating oil, and lots of patience later, I was able to bring it back to its original glory. The fsb finnish doesn't exactly match the barrel finnish, but that doesn't bother me too much. Now it's gonna sit in the safe until I have time to shoot it, which is probably many months from now. Hahaha

I have a very nice Russian with original blued finish that also has the lug ground off

I have dreams of restoring it but I know it is not a kitchen table project and finding an original Russian blued FSB is not an easy thing, most have gone through refurb and have the black paint finish.

A lot of idiots did that during the 1994-2004 Federal ban that cited bayonet lugs as an evil-feature, or ditched the folding bayonet entirely, losing it in the process, throwing it away, whatever -

It took me 6 years to find a Rasheed bayonet for one of my 3 that I bought without one, and only got lucky at that. I had bought a Russian SKS bayonet to modify it to use on the Rasheed (nearly identical, just need to enlarge the muzzle ring) but I came across a guy who posted a genuine Rasheed bayonet on Ebay - which he priced it at what would have been a run of the mill Chinese/Yugo SKS bayonet because it looked so similar to those - $30 - I nearly broke my fingers to log in and hit "Buy-It-Now".

it had to do with the 922r american rifleman had instructions how to allow the gun to use detachable magazines it told you to change the stock to a us made one then grind off the bayonet lug and you could use detachable magazines (not in california though)

Starting in 1989, due to changes to Federal import laws/regulations, US importers started grinding off the bayonet lugs on non-C&R Chinese SKS.

I bubbled my non matching, not even 2 parts, Albanian Chinese sks with the flat charging handle and blade bayonet. But it had strong rifling, so I turned it into a molot style refurb, great shooter. No regrets.

Still have my all matching Chinese spike bayo in cosmo. It's staying that way forever!
