SVT 40 value estimate

I had an Auto-Ordnance Semi-automatic Thompson, the M1A1 version. Like others have posted, they are heavy and after owning and shooting one, it lost its novelty with me and eventually became just another semi-auto gun firing a pistol caliber round. The 16" barrel was also a turn off for me cosmetic-wise. Also, I found it was damn hard to cock the gun with its small little charging handle on the M1A1 version. It seems that in addition to the firing pin spring, there are two other recoil springs guiding the bolt in the frame in the semi-automatic Thompson that the automatic version doesn't have. That is probably why the charging action was so stiff. The gun did draw some looks when I took it to the range. I know if you want one, you're going to get it; but I hope the interest doesn't fade and you regret selling the SVT 40 someday. I also own an SVT 40 and my interest in that is still alive and well after almost three decades, long after me and the semi-auto Thompson parted ways.Comment

I'm nearing the liquidation mode, so I think I'll be satisfied with a Scott Werks .22 clone for now. Thanks guys for the input. I can see how anything short of the real deal is just a compromise anyway. PAXYou need a crew

I would trade only if the Thompson had the fun switch.
I would love to get my hands on a STV-40.We are all Masters of our own Ship. It's the course changes that you make, that affect your life.
I'm not paranoid, I know they're out to get me.

I don’t even care for collector type guns but that’s something you will regret selling one day.
And I’d definitely get some trigger time on a Thompson before you buy one.Comment

Mustang, mine ran good but every so often I’d get a stuck case. I’d have to beat the bolt with a hammer to get them out.Usually after shooting several mags. These guns do get Hot when shooting. It’s a miracle I didn’t break an extractor. Mine was OK on accuracy, not quite as good as my M1. The muzzle blast is huge on these. Like I said, I regret selling it. Fun guns.Comment

Yep, got an SVT as one of my first C&R purchases in 2003. Nothing special or fancy, but I deeply regret selling.Comment

Bill Berg had stainless piston/cup sets. Looks like OoS currently.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??
