    Garand barrel and trigger work

My Brother In Law has a Garand that he said needs a new barrel and needs the trigger lightened. I haven't seen it in person. He said that the trigger is overly hard and that the barrel is shot out.

He mentioned that the very front of the bore is worn smooth and that the trigger in his words was "like 12 pounds".

He asked about gunsmiths and I recommended he use the CMP service that's offered. They seem to have decent pricing and I'm pretty sure they're competent.

He is in the Phoenix Arizona area but I know of nothing in that area.

kendog4570 is a great smith and an 01, so you could send it to him if you can't find anyone local to Pheonix. More than a few guys hear have barrels. A WTB should get some hits. I picked up a Criterion a while back to swap on my M1!. PAX

That's a good idea to use CMP. They also use Criterion barrels as needed. I don't know if he's still in business, but Tim Shufflin used to do lots of Garand work also and was very highly regarded. He had a website for his work.

Just got a rifle back from CMP for a barrel swap. Not only did they charge me a third of the website listed price but threw in a free bolt that headspaced. Only downside was I was on the wait-list for 6 months

Just saw a post where someone was selling a .308 Garand barrel. I suggest checking the marketplace as well as CMP

They?re available again, Fulton has them in stock now https://www.fulton-armory.com/barrel...ndchamber.aspx

The gouge was real just a few months ago, I saw guys selling NIB .308 Criterion M1 barrels for $400+ back in the Fall and getting it. I have three .308 ones still in the box, all NOS Wilson Arms barrels I bought 20-years ago, and considered taking profits on them but passed; they?re excellent quality and Wilson doesn?t make them anymore.
