I have yet to shoot any of my Last Ditch rifles. Some of them, I think will be fine. The Last Ditch rifles made by the Mazda Corporation are really well made. The Nagoya Last Ditch rifles look pretty shoddy. Just be sure when you purchase a rifle, that it isn't a Trainer rifle. Those were meant to shoot blanks only and I think a lot of the bad reputation that Japanese rifles used to have were due to GIs shooting them till they blew up.
Spriggy - I think the Type 92 sounds louder than the Mg42 due to it's method of extraction. The T92 rips the cartridges out where as the Mg42 roller delayed blowback seem to ease out the cartridges, comparatively speaking. I don't think it was the rate of fire since there were M1919s firing that day and they fire at about the same rate as the T92 but not nearly as loud.

tell ya the truth, when you're about as deaf as I am, you start to measure the sound by concussion/blowback and not by actual decibels
