I had an SKS back in the 1980's and foolishly let it go, a costly mistake for sure. But held onto the accessories hoping one day to replace it.

I sold all of my fixed mag SKS from the 80's but i wisely retained my rare Norinco detachable mag SKS since it uses all my AK mags and drums.sigpic

the Chinese SKS back in the 1980's -90's
I remember many people said the Chinese sks was a piece of junk , poorly made , cheap quality , made for midgets , the gun show venders even had signs on their tables that said
"no Chinese junk" we only sell the original Russian or Yugo , etc
back then you could get a used Chinese sks for $69.00 and unissued sks for $99.00 , and a 1100 rd case of surplus Chinese military ammo on stripper clips for $89 a caseComment

Okay, finally got to the range (FT3 Tactical) and shot my new to me SKS. Using Norma 123gr FMJ it shot to point of aim, at 25m, with the rear sight set to 200. Function was 100% with no doubling. Inspecting the brass while dinged up there were not pierced primers or split necks. the only down side is that my rifle ejects brass at 12:00 landing 10 feet down range making it hard to retrieve.Last edited by wild_weasel; 01-22-2023, 12:02 PM.sigpic

Only if you are stuck in Commiefornia.
A local shop has one of the original detachable mag SKS's that someone put in a Tapco folding stock and it has a scope installed on the receiver cover.Last edited by highpower; 01-24-2023, 6:29 PM.MLC member.

Yep, they may become popular in New Mexico cuz they are pushing for Registration with State Police, sell to FFL, or hand over to LEO's here. hoping it doesn't pass, but they are pushing for less than 10 rd capacity detectable mags and outlawing hollow point bullets! A bunch of total kneejerk Dumbass Dems in Santa Fe trying to tell people how to run their lives. Like any of the criminals (and we have ALOT, starting with juveniles and upwards) will register their AR's or abide by the new laws.
I've got a nice M16A1 Retro I've been building and just got the correct lower, guess I'll be unloading my AR's as I'm not going to register anything with anybody.
Oh yeah also pushing for a 14 day cooling off period.
I was going to sell my SKS's but might as well hold onto at least one, I have a Mini 30 (which isn't an AR15 Type) and plenty of ammo.Comment

One of the hindsight mistakes I made was selling my 1990's Norinco SKS after I obtained two Russian SKS rifles during those times. A even worse mistake was later selling one of the Russian SKS rifles for 180.00. I also let my MAK90 go pretty cheap in a trade. I remember many people did question the quality of the Chinese SKS rifles, maybe because they were sold so cheaply. If I had been at Turners before OP, I too would have jumped at buying that rifle at $600 which I bought for less than a $100 well over a quarter of century ago.I remember many people said the Chinese sks was a piece of junk , poorly made , cheap quality , made for midgets , the gun show venders even had signs on their tables that said

I have all the common SKS variants. There isn’t anything inferior about the typical Chinese rifles, although the chu wood furniture seems soft and more prone dents and damage.Comment

Are the detachable magazines legal? Or do you need to get a fixed magazine one? I've seen a few members say theirs have detachable magazines and it was legal to acquire but not sure how...Comment
