    C&R license and CMP rifles....

I have a C&R license and would like to know if, when I receive a rifle from CMP (an M1 Garand), do I have to record it into my record book?

I had spoken to a BATF agent about this a few years ago, and she told me 'NO', however, told me to keep a 'paralell' set of records that showed ALL of my acquistions (including CMP M1 Garands \ 03's). She said that you would be playing it safe this way in case I was ever audited.

Anyone know for sure what I am required to do?

Federal law requires licensed collectors to record the acquisition and disposition of each C&R firearm they acquire or dispose of.

CFR 478.125(f) Firearms receipt and disposition by licensed collectors. Each licensed collector shall enter into a record each receipt and disposition of firearms curios or relics
There is no mention in this section of the law about whether or not you "used" your license. It just says that...

    if you are licensed,

and if you receive or dispose of a firearm,

and if that firearm is a C&R,

then you need to log it.

Why is it a person can recieve a rifle directly mailed from the CMP without a C&R?

Federal law exemption for the CMP because the Federal Government wants to promote marksmanship in the unorganized militia.

        Seriously.
