Does anybody know how long it takes for CFARS to approve a C&R Long Guns Report. I purchased an SKS out of state and within the 5 day period submitted the report on CFARS. That was on 10/14/2022. Until now it still says, "IN PROGRESS." Should I just keep on waiting or email them? Thanks in advance.

How Long for C&R Report to be approved on CFARS

That is a great question.
I have an interfamilial transfer that I did almost a year ago that still shows "In Process" in CFARS. But I also have a couple of Assault Weapon registrations that show "In Process" and I know those were approved. Maybe they never update the status there? -
Your legal requirement is complete once you submit the report.
There is no legal requirement for CA DOJ BOF to provide acknowledgement that a submitted report has been completely processed by them.
As a curtsey, CA DOJ BOF mails an acknowledgement letter for submitted reports.
Before the "pandemic", the response time was approximately 4-64 weeks after cashing in payment of the report.
Since the "pandemic", the response time is approximately 6-24 months after cashing in payment of the report.sigpic

In my case, I submitted the information the beginning of July, and like the other posters have said, mine still says "In progress". The sheriff's office keeps telling me they still cant find a record of it (The item I put into cfars is for my ccw firearm) This almost sounds like this delay is intentional.Your legal requirement is complete once you submit the report.

I have had them take two week and others take 18 months.

I submitted two long guns on June 30, 2022 and they still show "In Progress" on the CFARS website. Hardcopy from CA DOJ of Report of Firearm Ownership Approval was dated August 19, 2022.
So, overall it was seven weeks to get the acknowledgment even though the status on CFARS is still the same.Comment
