Can Bright Nickel Plating be repaired?

If bright nickel plating is starting to flake and speckle is the only option to strip it and refinish? Is there anyplace that offers nickel plate repair? I have seen a DIY kit for nickel but I am very hesitant to try it myself.

Having been in the plating industry since 1985, I can tell you that once the flaking starts, there is no matching it. Especially Bright nickle plating.
For local areas, you might be able to use the over-the-counter products, (including painting) to cover the area. But it will not look the same.

Thank you gentlemen, I think I know the answer but I'll ask anyways. Is there any product I can use that will stop further flaking? Arrest it so to speak.
