    Colt Police Positive .38

I think I posted about this Colt .38 special earlier in the year. My father in law gave it to me, it had been his father in law's and was gifted to him many decades ago.

It is in excellent plus shape with a bit of muzzle wear from going in and out of a pistol rug. My mother in law recollects it being fired 6 times that she remembers.

I sent off to Colt for the sale record and learned it was one of two shipped to a major Pittsburgh Pa. hardware store in 1925. Family lore is that it was given to the family by the police chief of a small suburban town outside of Pittsburgh in the early 30s.

I haven't shot it yet and may not. I'll leave that to the next family member in line.

Nice! They are an underappreciated gun. I have a 1913 in .38 spl. Thanks for sharing.

That's an excellent sleek little gun in a much more interesting barrel length that the usual 4". Mine was cut down to 2" loooong ago and has NPD and a number on the butt which might mean "Newport Police Dept.". That's one of two boxes of old Colt NP ammo I have, same as .38 S&W except flat point. Colt did not want to put "S&W" on their guns I guess and came up with their own cartridge name. I have an old Pach grip adapter on it now.

Absolutely love the old cut down revolvers.

The Fitz specials are a real favorite of mine.

Would love to find a cut down .45 1917.

Nice revolver in the OP's post, too.

Like this amputated 1917? Shooting double action standing up at 15 yards aiming above the black and to the right a little makes this gun shoot as good as longer barreled modern guns. No target shooter but just talking defense shooting. It's bare metal finsh. I like it that way.
