    FFL03 question!

Hi i just got my FFL03 about 2 weeks ago and i understand that i have to report and log all my C&R firearms i acquire with the license. I mainly got the C&R license for buying ammo online and the 1 in 30 handgun and semi auto rifle exemption. My question is this.

Do i need to log new modern firearms that i acquire using the FFL03 and COE 1 in 30 exemption into my AFT log book?

No, you do not. You only log in C&R firearms, even if bought from an FFL01.

My Application took 3.5 weeks from mailing it to the ATF and getting my FFL03 license in the mail at my home.

My COE took about the same time as well.

You are required to log ALL C&R firearms you acquire while you are licensed into your book.

Not just the ones you use your licensed to acquire.

              No exceptions.

no you don't log modern guns. of course not. Why would that be relevant? Your 03 is a federal license. Just because the state allows "exemptions" to some laws by virtue of having an 03/COE, has nothing to do with your bound book. The ATF regulations tell you exactly what goes in the book, nothing more, nothing less. They of course don't mention anything about state laws.
People also need to stop saying the expression "use my 03". That's really a nonsensical statement. You are licensed. Being licensed exempts you from some CA laws. You don't use it like you use a credit card. You wouldn't say you "use" your drivers license to drive a car.

Correctly, he responded that you log all C&R firearms you acquire while you are licensed. It's the whole "with/use" terminology that catches people. No matter how you get a C&R, whether it's face-to-face, PPT, DROS, whatever. If you acquire, you log. "All of us here know that" is a stretch, because this comes up too often. Maybe you don't need it but: some people mistakenly think if they PPT a firearm that happens to be a C&R, but they don't even tell the FFL they have an 03 (so they wait the 10 days etc.) that they wouldn't have to log it in their book, because they didn't "use" their license. But that's not accurate, the Feds don't know or care about DROS or even 4473s. Any C&R you acquire, goes in your book. And then the opposite - anything not a C&R, whether it's antique or modern, does not go in your book.

Not arguing here, trying to learn. When would an antique firearm not be C&R? I thought C&R included anything made more than 50 years ago?

I'm also a newbie with an 03... When you log a C&R you aquired via PPT at an 01 FFL...Do you log the "aquired from" as the person you bought it from via ppt or the 01 FFL who did the dros?

That's pretty quick because mine took like 2 months, the whole time I was just waiting anxiously to get it in the mail lol.
