    Reno Trip

Nothing spectacular, just kind of glad the way I came across them.

The Reno gun shows have slacked off quite a bit and I've missed one or two. But for me any excuse to leave CA is a good one.

Crossroads had their show this weekend. Really didn't find much. To make the trip worthwhile I've learned the Reno LGS route. Willey Bros is always worth a visit. Found these for a good price -

I'm guessing the serial number (398249) puts the S&W made 1916 or so. Not sure about the H&R.

The Smith was fairly dry inside so cleanup wasn't the usual chore. I found a name and date handwritten on the inside grip. Whoever "L A Qualls" was in March 26 1930 - he (she?) evidently owned the gun. Also scratched an "LQ" on the bottom of the grip panel.

The H&R took just a little cleaning. Takedown is done by depressing the triggerguard and everything slides off forward.

Would have liked to have found the gun show doing better. Still worth the trip.

    Interesting.
I didn’t realize H&R made an auto pistol.

Two actually - a 25 ACP version, which looks even more unusual than the 32 ACP.

The H&R is a variation of the Webley pocket pistol that had an external hammer as I recall.

I have scored some nice stuff at Willey Bros. Are they still letting CA 03FFLs cash and carry?

I also went to the crossroads show as an after thought to the air races. Found a 1884 trapdoor that has a stock that needs a little love.

That's the one. I did the usual cleaning (wasn't too bad) and on the inside of the grip someone had written "L.A. Qualls March 26 1930". Did some checking and found out the fellow lived in NV from about 1902 to 1977. Found his kids listed in obit. I'm guessing one of his kids just passed and grandkids sold it off.

I'm getting in the habit of not buying at the show and instead at Willey Bros and Mark Fore & Strike stores.

Yes. Only issue I've had is that when you say "I wanna buy" and have a C&R they sometimes take that to mean you want it shipped direct to you. Easily clarified, no problems.

I picked up this mid-70's made 2nd Gen Colt SAA -

                  - and the 1st reaction was "not old enough". They checked the C&R book, learned it was listed and did the deal. That they took the time to check and do the deal was a bit different than what we sometimes see in CA.

Very nice. They also looked up a Polish P64 for me to see they were all listed C&R and let then me walk with it.

I did not know (or maybe I forgot) that 2nd gen SAA are C&R - nice score!

+1 for Mark Fore & Strike- 4 generations work at the store and all very knowledgeable and very willing to check C&R to make sure you can get it. Have bought several firearms from there including a S&W model 39

Yep good people at Willey Bros, I used to stop by on my monthly sojourns to Reno from South Tahoe. They had signal cannon or line throwing gun they used to take out and shoot, used a lot of Black powder though.

If you can afford their prices Mark Fore And Strike usually has quite a selection, handguns under the counter, long guns in racks to play with and don't forget the back room with more long guns! But again, they can be pricey.

And an FYI the gun range at Carson City is now a controlled range.

Willey Bros. are good folks. I've adopted more than one firearm from them.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!
