That was my thinking as well when I ordered my field grade pistol. I had hoped to avoid one of the 1980s replacement slides or a recent reparkerizing. I wanted something with original components and honest wear, and I pretty much got what I wanted.Comment

Anyone expecting a call soon should apply for one of those rewards credit cards where you get $200 cash back after spending $1000 within the first 3 months. And hopefully some of us should be getting the $350 stimulus debit card over the next month or 2.
Capital One, Chase, Amex, Wells Fargo, Bank of America. All good ones. The Amex cards I believe will give you an instant credit card number to use before actually getting the card in the mail. Double check to make sure CMP accepts Amex though.
Capital One and Amex give you the reward $$ the fastest out of all of those cards once you spend 1k.Last edited by Xplosiv3; 11-30-2022, 9:34 AM.Comment

Service grade 1911A1
I picked up my Service Grade from LGS yesterday after it did its jail time. RGN number was in low 34,000 range. 1942 Colt Frame with Ithaca slide, replacement barrel, nice, supposedly Vietnam era magazine, and what look to be original Colt grips. No arsenal rebuild stamps on it but it looks like it was probably reparked at some time and got a new slide stop, hammer and safety. It's nice but I'm still bummed they wouldn't send a Range Grade to Kommiefornia. I'm still mulling it over as to keep it or not, I'm considering selling it or taking interesting trades. No reflection on CMP, I'm over the moon about my SA 1943 Expert Grade M1 Garand.Last edited by shootthehorses; 12-04-2022, 9:16 PM.Comment

Basically, it's their way of taking an "abundance of caution" when it comes to the laws about modifying a C&R gun in such a way that it is no longer C&R eligible and thus, the roster would apply.
The Range grade is the only grade the CMP uses the word "modified" for even though Rack, Service, and Field Grades can also have non-oem parts. But I guess not as many as Range grade?
I doubt all of the stuff they mention for range grades would strip a 1911 of it's C&R status but they just don't want to take any risks I guess.Comment

Field with the hand-select/matching serial numbers option.
But then I woke up and just did Field grade (FYI, they told me only Field, Rack, and Range grades are still available)My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

When these arrive at your FFL, can they be processed as a C&R? I know that CMP can’t send them as C&R, but does that preclude your FFL from processing as one?My friends and family disavow all knowledge of my existence, let alone my opinions.Comment

Call came Friday. Gun arrived Tuesday. Picked it up last night. Field Grade.
Remington Rand frame (1945 production, I believe). Colt slide. I think the markings on the barrel hood show that the barrel was replaced in 1985.
Gun seems to be a nice condition for its age. No rust. There is a noticeable line of tint difference on the front of the slide, and the thumb safety might be a replacement (distinctly darker finish)
I don't know much about surplus 1911s, so I would love to hear anyone's thoughts.

Nice looking pistol. The finish difference on the front of the slide is from heat treating of that portion. Slides were heat treated at the front and around the slide stop cutout and depending on the individual slide some show discoloration in those areas. Mine shows a significant color difference around the slide stop cutout but not as much around the front.Comment

I was lucky and got in on the first round my RGN was 6151 and I took possession in July of 2019. I don't remember which grade I ordered but was offered all 3, I paid just over $1,000.00 after DROS and dealer charges. I got a Remington Rand frame mfg in 1944 and a type 3 Remington slide., which is consistent with the date of mfg, The pistol is a safe queen at present. I'm getting along in years and do not get around as I once did, that's why it has not been fired, If I had the skill I would send some pix but I just don't understand all this newfangled stuff. Just submitted so others will know about the 1911's they are beautiful firearmsComment
