Question for those who shoot their Type 14 Nambu

Bought my type 14 four years ago for cheap because the safety lever was snapped off. Bought a replacement so it looked correct, didn't really plan on actually using it as a functional safety. Finally found some ammo that would function properly in the gun and yesterday took it out to shoot for the first time.

Made it through the first five rounds just fine. After another 5 rounds, I looked at it to pull the magazine out and the safety lever had snapped off exactly like the original. It snapped off in the "fire" position so it still ran and functioned fine. (Just can't put it on "safe" now)

I know the extractors and firing pins are prone to breaking, has anyone else experienced the safety lever also being brittle and snapping off while firing it? I plan on getting another replacement but probably won't put it into the pistol unless I planned on selling it.

Picture of old safety and new one in the gun broken in the same spot linked below.

I had a look at this one on ebay and noticed that the lever bows in slightly and is of very thin metal. When you installed it, was there alot of tension against the frame?

I've found this gentleman who makes parts for them (at least a few years ago...not sure if he is still in business). You might tell him your issue.

Everyone on Calguns keeps talking about TDS. I never knew we had so many fish keepers!

The TDS on my 10gallon tanks 110ppm
The TDS on my 29 gallon tank is 150ppm (due to substrate)

It looked pretty much the same as the one on eBay. There was a bit of tension against the frame. I figured that most where that way from the marks made in the frame of most Type 14. I'm not too worried about having a perfect looking or functioning safety at the moment. I was just curious if that was something that others had seen happen with their Type 14 or if mine just likes to break them.

I will probably contact him at some point to have one made if he's still in business. Thanks for his info.

Its not been a problem on mine but I have only put ~25 rds down range in the year I have owned it.

I am afraid that I can’t be any help as I don’t shoot my Type 14’s. My thought is that there has to be some underlying issues with yours because I haven’t heard of safety breakage being an endemic problem with T14 pistols.

Maybe the safety is engaging while the action is functioning somehow?

I know it isn’t engaging while firing. It broke in the off position. The safety lever did seem to push quite a bit on the frame so maybe a combo of that, the movement of the action, and it being a bit brittle? I’ll send don an email to get one from him and see how it does.
