The dollar has lost 91% of it's value since 1957 ( caused by going off the gold standard). Todays value of the $123.00 of 1957 is $1,296.42. But it's value can not be put into dollars can it?

    Beautiful pistol, thanks for sharing.

Some really beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing that all as well as the comments. My Son knows of this one and he is in line as the next and only recipient of this. This is truly a family and generational firearm that we will always cherish.

I noticed the old SB address - just sold for $1.12M. House probably went up in value a tad times more than the Smith.

My Dad's last residence wasn't much bigger and sold for 1.75 million. I remember my Mom and Dad telling us that they really wanted a house that was up the hill from them and it was 2K more than the one they ended up with because the loan amount was too high.

They paid 15K for their last house. Crazy.

For those that are interested, the 1940 issue of Shooter's Bible has the Smith & Wesson ".357 Magnum" listed with a retail price of $60.00. That was a lot of money back then, possibly a week's wages or more.

Census says the average man made less than $1000 a YEAR in 1940, $60 was close to a months wages.

Imagine Calguns members in the 40's, we would go broke and homeless

That's a really cool family heirloom.

On a side note, i grew up just over the hill, a couple years behind you. I do not miss the foggy four seasons!

Amen to that! I remember one year when I was driving age riding my Kawasaki LTD 900 during a rare time when it was unseasonably sunny and warm for a few months. We were out every night cruising El Camino.

No smart comments from me, that is just too great of a history piece! Amazing with the box and documentation
