    #10 caps

anyone have a source they are willing to divulge for #10 percussion caps...preferably Remington. I'm just looking for a max of 300 caps. if there are a ton of people then maybe we can do a group buy for 5000 (probably a pain in the arse).....
looking for 1lb bottles of Swiss 3F also.
Just got a nice 1851 Navy from Jim Finch @ Longhunt.com. all taken apart, re polished, honed, adjusted, new nipples, etc

but now i have nothing to feed it. Feed me, Seymour!!!

Grafs has the Swiss 3F, but percussion caps of any size are pretty hard to locate.

When you order powder, consider a can of Triple7 2F.

I find the 2F Triple 7 to give velocity very close to the Triple 7 3F, but 2F Triple7 is more versatile, and easier to load and handle, and has a grain size closer to 3F Swiss. The 2F can also be used to load modern smokeless cartridges safely.

yeah. that is very true. the only sights that have them are scam sights. i would never have thought there would be a shortage of black powder supplies, since proportionally most shooters use modern cartridges.

I had fffg for sale but had to pull it. Against federal law to sell black powder without explosives license. Have number 11 caps but cannot ship.

I'm down to about 500. I bought these so when I'm out I'll try rolling my own.

Are you engaged in the business? Big difference between selling a pound or two left over from your shooting days and "engaging in business".
It should be noted that persons engaged in the business of importing or manufacturing smokeless powder designed for any use must have a Federal explosives license.

Not the way I read it. It is left over from cannon we had. Atf directive did not say in business said anyone.

From May 10 to June 13 you could order Remington #10 caps online at BassPro and Cabelas and have them shipped. They ran out on June 13 at the warehouse where they ship the caps. Only available in stores. Some stores still had those #10 Remmington in stock in late June. I don't know about now. Muzzleloadingforum.com forum threads keeps me up to date.

Is FFFg the same as 3F? i can't seem to find out what the "g" stands for. perhaps "gram" but i don't know what the context is.

                            Same thing.

Grain maybe? I'm not sure about it either, I'll have to find out now!

Yes, it is. It has to do with the size of the powder granules. Different sizes equate to different burning rates. FFFFg being very fine, and Fg being coarse with much larger granules.

Regarding the "g" designation, this is what I found on a black powder forum:

The last letter of the black powder name indicates the grade of powder. Usually, for firearms applications, this last letter is always 'g'. But this is not the only grade of powder: there are two grades in use:

"A" or "blasting grade" powder - the preferred powder of choice for fireworks manufacture.
"g" or "sporting grade" powder - preferred for firearms use.

The primary difference between the 'A' and 'g' grades is in the manufacturing process. Both are manufactured in the same way initially, but at the end, the 'g' grade powders are polished in a tumbler with a tiny amount of graphite, to polish the grains and make them flow easily. The 'A' grade powders are not usually tumbled, and if they are tumbled, it is just for a short amount of time to remove any sharp edges. For purchasing the A-grade powder, the user will need to have a BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) license and a BATFE-legal magazine to store the powder. Usually that is why it is not commonly seen in sporting goods stores and such. The g-grade is not subject to the same restrictions and is therefore available in gun stores and online shops (only need a BATFE license if purchasing more than 50 lbs. of g-grade powder).
