Buying a Steyr M95 from RTI?

I am thinking of buying a M95 long rifle from RTI. I have heard it's kind of hit & miss on what you get. I know there is someone selling a carbine on the long gun forum, but I want a rifle that the average soldier would have been issued.
They are selling for 399 + 15 or so for clips. I do not expect anything other than something that can shoot? I am sure bore is worn, wood beat etc. I will find a way to make the 8x50R ammo. What I was wondering is if anyone here has any experience with these from them. I do not have the budget to get a nice example. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I strongly suggest checking out gunbroker first. You get to see pictures of the exact one you're getting, and the M95 isn't that popular so you may/very likely get a better example at a lower price. Royal Tiger has never been known as a low price leader so if they're asking $399 then gunbroker prices are likely in the $300 range.

    edit:
I did a brief search on gunbroker of completed sales. Prices are all over the place, but there were a few examples in the $350 range.

Sorry, would have replied sooner but my home computer has issues.
I have looked a little on Gunbroker, it seems at least right now most of what is out there are carbines. And there is also the "sorry we do not ship to California"
I know there is a way to convert 7.62x54R cases to 8x50 so I would just need a bullet mold to reload. I will keep looking for now. If I get something I will post pics.

I too would NOT recommend RTI. Total crapshoot as to what they'll send you.

Thanks, I guess I will try an ad on the marketplace. I have my FFL03 + COE.
I just do not see much on gunbroker, plus all the other hoops to jump through in this state

Yep. With the prices of even obscure C&Rs these days, probably pays to just shop and wait until you can score what you really want in the condition you want.

In the old days of even a decade ago, when C&Rs were cheap, why not, take a chance and occasionally even the known lousy C&R sellers would come through with something interesting. But now that everything C&R is expensive and often massively overpriced, do the hunt, find what you want. Do a C&R roadtrip through Arizona and Nevada, you can probably find exactly what you want in small gun shop somewhere.

I decided to buy a carbine from a Calgunner on the marketplace. I figured it would be a good start and you can't have too many milsurps.
