    CFARS Document Upload Problem

Has anybody had problems uploading documents to the CFARS website?

I am trying to renew my COE and they require Real ID. No problem, I have it. I add the attachment as CDL (and tried all the others for that matter) and the "'Real ID' is required" message comes up. No problem, I'll try my other computer. Same error. Try my phone, same error. Work computer, same. I've logged my issue in the issues log but all they tell me is to disable pop up blockers or to call the Customer Support Center at (916) 210-2300 for more assistance. I call the number but it provides information only with no selection to trouble shoot problems

Are there other methods/numbers to make contact?

    Try a different browser.
    It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Chrome has always worked well for me.

I just had that problem last week when I was registering a C&R long gun I bought.

First make sure you’re using Chrome as your browser.

When you upload your ID is it a PDF file? I kept getting the same error message until I took a picture of my ID instead of scanning it to a PDF. I have an I-phone so it was a .png file but I imagine it would work with a .jpg

        Try that.

Also take note if any new check-boxes open up as you filled out the form. I was sure I ticked all the boxes but noticed some new ones came up depending on my answers. It really is such a user unfriendly system

Thanks for all the tips! I've tried with Chrome on my Mac, home PC and work PC and re-scanned my ID as as a .jpg with no luck so far but I will keep on trying.

Check one of the drop down boxes. It resets and it is on the right side somewhere. It took me a few times to get it right. Also do not forget to put in your FFL#

No I haven't. Uploaded it on the first try. Pic format no problem straight from phone.

                CFARS Problems

When you log into your CFARS account to renew your COE. To update and upload a Real ID, you need to go to the bottom and click on the modify restricted fields button. It then has a drop down field in the Applicant Information Field to update a Real Id, then add this document and upload your real ID as a jpeg or PDF. Also while in your CFARS account go to My User Profile, and ad your 03 FFL info including an expiration date, so they don't ask for it again later.

                  Look at the picture format

I phone sometimes makes the image HEIC and some sites hate that file type.

If the file is HEIC or some proprietary blend.... paint is the easy fix

Open image in paint. Resize to just over minimum size required - save as .jpg
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
                  (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

I had the EXACT same problem, and the fix is not at all intuitive, and it's not a browser issue.

Once you've added your CDL, scroll up into the body of the application. Somewhere in there is a dropdown box asking for the type of doc used for your Real ID confirmation. It's small, so you have to really look for it. once you've found it, click on it and select "CDL" then you should be able to send it through.

Gee it sure would be nice if that box was larger or if something pointed it out. Took me a while to realize that was the issue on my end.

                    Good luck!

                      To add on to this...

Not only is the REAL ID box small, but it has a tendency to uncheck itself.

Before clicking submit on your report, always double check to make sure that box is checked.
