MAS36 is a Strong Action, what type of ammo do you have.

Does the serial number on the bolt match the receiver? If so it's probably good to go. About the only thing a Smith could do is check for head space, IF they had the proper gauge's for the French 7.5.

I dont have any ammo for it yet
I would like the head space checked on it
Just to make sure its suitable to be fired with its standard ammo
When i acquire some its like nearly 2.00 a round
Plus tax shipping transfer fees and background check

I wouldn't mind picking up a couple dozen rounds of french 7.5, I've never shot my 36.

You might have to buy the gauge yourself, I doubt a gunsmith would have it these days

The MAS36 is a fun shooting little carbine and the 7.5 French is close to .308 in recoil. Saw action in Indochina, Algeria………would have loved the sniper version. All French firearms of this era are cool, Lebel to MAS49/56.

              How about some pictures?

Bit late but it might be easier to get answers from the Curio & Relic thread (though I see some of the C&R regulars have already provided some good answers here)

I'd be surprised if the MAS 36 was capable of blowing up at all, even with a gross overcharge.

I'd just go ahead and shoot it.

Shot three of them without ever getting them checked. its a strong action. if you are super scared put a sandbag over the action first. I wouldnt be to worried.

if its a century convert to .308 even more likely its fine

You guys might consider getting into reloading and make you own out of resized 30-06 brass. That is what I did. There are several sites that explain the process.

6.5 Swede cases are simple to use, just run them through a 7.5 MAS sizing die and instant 7.5 French case.

I have three MAS 36 rifles. If the rifle is in good condition you should just shoot it. I shot all three of mine without a gunsmith checking them out.

Some of the recent imports have been in pretty bad condition. I would check one of those.
