    ATF proposal regarding C&R

If you haven't seen it yet, the ATF released a report entitled National Firearms Commerce and Trafficking Assessment. The media has been bloviating about it with regard to the number of guns sold in the last 20 years years and "ghost guns".

On page 162 they make recommendations regarding curios and relics. To me it is the second one that is concerning.

    It reads:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Damn. My plan of waiting until weapons of mass destruction were available to me under the regulations of my federal license is foiled! Foiled! Whatever will I do now?

Imagine AKs becoming C&R soon? Haha. Not that it'll do any good for us Californian.

Given the crazy events of late, no doubt 2A rights will be further limited.

Well, things moved more slowly in 1968 than they do today, so 50 years was a lot longer back then.

I'm not surprised this would come up. I can see them trying to replace the rolling 50 years with a locked in date, similar to the antique rule. Although with all the fuss about "background checks", you have to have a federal license (meaning background check) for this rule to even be relevant. Plus record keeping requirements far above what a regular background does. So I'm not sure what it actually achieves.

The mastermind behind this must have staked interest in C&R business, let the panic buy begin!

Because C&R collectors are some kind of risk collecting them? Where is the data they are a problem at all? Of course there is zero.

The inmates are running all the asylums now. More illogical virture signaling.

By 1918, semi-auto firearms were in common use.

During the early-1900s, semi-auto rifles and semi-auto shotguns were introduced into the US civilian market.

During the late-1890s, semi-auto pistols were introduced into the US civilian market.

Also during the late-1890s, machine guns were introduced into the US civilian market.

^^ and the US Govt would sell to the sporting public, improved versions of the current infantry rifle.

So, if the DOJ reviews and decides that they need to change the rules, and of course they need more budget to do it, what can they do besides recommend something to congress?

The AR15 (1959), SKS (1946 - Russian, 1956 Chinese Type 56) and AK47 (1949 Original Russian, 1959 Russian AKMs) have all been C&R for over a decade by this point (Not to mention the numerous other semi auto C&R rifles such as the M1 Garand and Carbine) Semi auto pistols for even longer (IE. M1911(A1), Browning HI Power, P08 Luger, P38 Walther, etc. (Hell some C96s are antiques)
