    Garand in 6.5 x 55?

Anyone built one? Got a line on a barrel. Seems a perfect fit at first glance, OAL is very, very close. Should be very similar to .276 I'd think. I see folks doing M1s and M14s in Creedmoor all the time now, but x55 is FAR cooler.

I read about such a conversion on Gunboards, I believe the Swede forum.

I assume since Criterion made at least some barrels it's probably relatively common. It's pretty much the second chambering you'd think of for a caliber conversion, right after .270.

McCann Machine Industries in Spanaway, Washington used modify M1 Garands to fire the .458 Winchester Magnum. Always thought that was kind of interesting; certainly unique.

From what I remember reading, the conversion took some tweaking but it worked.

Wonder how the .260 Remington would do?

Same as Creedmoor most likely. You'd need the spacer like .308. Swede is just a better fit OAL wise and pressure wise.

That would have been a sweet set up, Garand in 6.5x55 vs 30/06

Sorry, great caliber but that's Bubba-ing. Convince me otherwise, I'm open minded!

God made the Garand in the American Fighting Soldier and America's Caliber, .30-06. I don't even like the .308 ones. ;-)

I was think straight out of the box 6.5x55 Swede vs coming out in 30/06. The M1 would have been a much better Rifle and maybe carried over onto the M14”

                          It’s a What If scenario.

Would have been great. I love 6.5x55.
