No big message/complaint/question to this post.
Just had a great shoot with some C&R'ish shooters, we all brought some old steel, the following was my non-sequitur contribution:
1. (Test) Mauser C96 (found here on CG), exchanged the springs for Wolf replacements, and used low recoil Fiocchi 7.63x25mm, on WW1 DWR clips from Ebay.
Shot like an absolute champ, it was a private range so the shoulder stock may or may not have rocked it, too.
Result: 8 rounds good - 10 rounds failed to fully engage first two rounds.
2. (Test) The 2" Colt Diamondback just came back from American Gun Works, where they did a full "overhaul and action Clean". This thing worked in dozens of movies and had everything from fake-blood to rust inside it, apparently. Now it's glass smooth and a LOT of fun to shoot, scary accurate like a 1960's Colt should be.
Result: Shot the bejesus out of it, hitting plates out to 25 yards for fun.
3. (Fun) Uberti 1873 Short Stroke Revolver designed for Kenda Lenseigne. I didn't know who she was, I bought the revolver because it felt great in the hand, As of now it is probably my favorite revolver to shoot. I used Ultramax .45 today, that reacts and gets as dirty as black-powder, but boy! How much fun to race through the steel plates with it, used a handmade holster also from American Gunworks.
4. (Fun) 16" Trapper .45LC, run this with the 1873 in a holster, 5 and 5, timed, against plates, so much fun! - If it wasn't $75 for 50 rounds I'd be out there routinely.
5. (Test) L1A1 built by Arizona Response Systems (on a butt-ugly CAI thumbhole monstrosity that I bought on CG), this is just an absolute blast to shoot, so much bloody fun. This is the rifle I learned to shoot on back in the 19th century, lol. It brings back floods of memories and I smiled so much it affected my aim today. Mark does incredible work on the builds, and I will be doing another in that "fugly" black vinyl plastic next time.
Result: Smooth as silk action, but with all the clanking, springs and pings, rings and clanking metal of an authentic L1A1 - paradise.
Feel free to post pics of what you're shooting this week, month, whenever -
Anyway here are pics, just a great way to spend the morning, which is what it's all about really:
