How to keep C&R gun in good condition?

Recently I started dros on a baby browning manufactured in 1966 unfired on consignment.
My wife fell in love with it once she saw it.

This is my first C&R firearm i have ever purchased and i wanted to see if you guys have any tips of keeping it in mint condition?

My son is 15 months old and we wanted to gift this to him and his wife on their wedding day as a surprise.

I hope he appreciates the thought and effort we put into this.

Just take the same care of it that you would any other firearm. Corrosion is the biggest enemy of things made out of metal, so keep it away from moisture and lightly oil it. Keep it in a dry place and inspect it from time to time.

I have a bunch of firearms that are over 100 years old that are still in excellent condition because they were properly cared for.

Don't keep it in that box with the foam. A silicon gun sleeve is good. Oil it every year.

On a side note another great gift idea is to obtain something that was made the year your Son was born. My Dad did this and my S&W 357 is at top number one slot of my favorites because of it. You could also do the same for his future bride if you have the time when it comes.

Ren-Wax is good for protecting the finish and grips.
(yes, there are other wax/protection products but that is my favorite)
Take it out, about once a year or so. Inspect it for any signs of wear/discoloration/stiffness.
Do a thorough clean/oil every so often.
Re wax and put it back to sleep.
Gun sleeves are definitely the way to go. Put it away by itself, make sure nothing is rubbing against it, like the magazine, while it is away.

The only enemies of a gun are rust and governments. Keep it well oiled and always wipe it down with a silicone cloth after handling and it will last forever, or until the government comes for it.

you can also use a heavier oil... CLP break free "CO" version for collectors is a good one.

Is Lucas Oil[emoji2400] Extreme Duty CLP the proper type of oil to use on the gun?

By the way i forgot to mention it does come with original browning pouch. Just missing the original box. I did buy a vintage style 1911 box online for it though.

Strip all the oily greasy crap off and apply. This stuff is magic and not messy at all.

Strip off all the oil and grease w/91% grade rubbing alcohol.

Apply only RENwax to all exposed surfaces.

Read the link I posted above for details of RENwax uses. Do your homework.
