Pics are too small to opine.

I am familiar with that website, but I have trouble telling the Remington Rand hammer from the narrow spur colt hammer from the same period.Comment

I cannot find good pics of a Type 2 Rand hammer. It seems everyone who ever photographed one used a potato cam. I will see about digging my original 1945 Rand out of the depths and getting good pics of the hammer.Comment

Ok here you go - a proper Type 2 Rem Rand 1911A1 hammer.
Unfortunately I can't say how smashed the diamonds have become in the past 77 years compared to when it was new. But OPs hammer seems to have a slightly coarser pattern.
Excuse the lint from the gun sock.

Thank you so much for posting those pics. It was very helpful. And i agree, the photos online suck. Even the photos on coolgunsite are crap.
What, if anything are the differences between the REM Rand hammer and the Colt Narrow Spur Hammer? I see nothing, MAYBE a slight profile shape difference.Comment

It looks like the diamonds are a little different and the number of rows. I am not an expert by any means and without having good samples of each in hand I cannot say for sure.Thank you so much for posting those pics. It was very helpful. But if I had to bet, it looks more like yours is the narrow spur Colt hammer. I count about 13 lines on yours and the narrow Colt one on Coolgunsite. On the Rem Rand I count about 15 lines. So the Rand seems to have more diamonds with a closer spacing than does the Colt.
Also just looking, the shapes of the diamonds on yours and the Colt look the same. But it's hard to be certain without having many more photos of both from different angles and hi-res. I have a Colt but it is 1943 with a wide spur hammerLast edited by SkyHawk; 05-04-2022, 10:45 AM.Comment
