Why .45 Colt single actions?

Sportsmans stores all over California are offering a half dozen Colt SAA online at various prices. I have shot .45 Long Colt for many years, ever since a kid.

The main reason someone might want to add one to the arsenal is that they take the easy to reload black powder cartridges which are not hard to clean afterwards. ffG or fffG loaded to max in the case and very slightly compressed is all you need to do. No weighing the charge. The cases will not stretch much and no big deal if they do. Really hassle free reloading. A little lee loader will do the trick, is what I started with long ago.

11bangbang, his video shows the difference shooting Colt (i.e. mild) smokeless vs. 40 grains real black. It's hard to get a full 40 into the case, but I guess Youtuber Plowboys Ghost manages. It will be hard to get a full 40 in there, a long 3 foot loading tube is probably what he uses. But 37 grain loads don't need all that rigamarole.

Black powder load recoil is not as quick of a jolt, more of a push. And it sounds more like a boom instead of a crack, compared to smokeless. BP will kick more, just not as sharp, and it heats up the gun more.

They're Cimarron repros of Colts. Not made by Colt.

I have three of the Uberti SAA clones, one in .45 Colt and two in 44-40. They are all a ton of fun to shoot, but I use smokeless powder because I don't like cleaning up the BP mess.

Yep, Like my two .45 Colt's. One Pietta "Gun Fighter", one Uberti/Taylor's Old Randall". Both good shooters, but, that Taylor's shoots!

Nothing like the real deal albeit,pricey. This Colt SAA 45 combo has been shot/ cycled hundreds of times,if you maintain it well,it still looks new.

NOTE: The 45 Long Colt cylinder is in the gun and is numbered to the frame as is the 45 ACP cylinder,both cylinders are timed perfectly. This was a Custom Shop job from 1996. I have the original box showing all the details. Again,I stress the hammer was done afterwards!! Does give it a distinct look from the old days.

Gun Genie / Davidson had one genuine Colt and a couple Standard Colts SAA back a month ago. Probably still do. But they were marked 'restricted in your area' for some reason. Sportsman's has a bunch of SAA Italian clones.

The video had a mistake. The so called pre war frame is not the early style but the later style. Early ( so called black powder frame) full moon bullseye ejector rod head, screw down cylinder pin release, narrow sights. Later prewar style has semi circle half moon ejector rod head, push button cylinder pin release, and wider sights. The one in the video is early style. So are both of mine (Italian clones .45LC and .32-20).
