    Reno Show & Road Trip

The "Big Reno" show is this weekend. Went Fri & Sat, saw alot of possibles on Friday with pretty good pricing. Since the show has had its ups & downs I've included a few Reno LGS visits on the trip. Stopped at Willey Bros on Friday and picked up a JC Higgins Model 88 -

Not exactly a high end purchase, but I've always liked them and they shoot fine. Made by High Standard.

Had narrowed down to a P14 rifle, Remington 51 or Savage 1907 when I ran into a table of Ruger three screw Blackhawks that included one or two Flat tops. Went with the 1958 made in 357 Magnum.

Sight picture with the Micro rear is excellent. Ejector rod housing is steel, grips well fit and full. Action locks up solid. To the point where the hand abuts the cylinder ratchet just as the sear drops into the notch at full cock.

Show was well attended, no issues doing C&R at the LGS. Marc Fore & Strike on Kietzke Lane had lots of C&R stuff, let me check out their back room too.

I went Fri and sat morning. Ended up with a line out serial number M1 carbine that I am sure I paid too much , but hadn't seen one before.

I posted on the Ruger Forum, got some good news and learned something:

Greetings all, I am looking for information on the "Ross Type 1" variant Blackhawk. I recently acquired an OM three screw that certainly has all the characteristics of the type 1 and falls within the serial # range of the Ross variants. I have read Bill Hamm's article on Gunblast and compared...

There's evidently what's called a "Ross Blackhawk" of which there were 800 made in 1956. Short version is that a serial number miscue makes them more sought after and valuable. Not "Triple Lock vs 2nd HE" value, but pretty good for a Ruger.
