Anyhone gone down the Radom P64/Wolff Springs Rabbit Hole?

    Hi all:

I am buying a P64. I used to own one, sold it (divorce), but now I'm buying another because it was kind of a fun little handful to shoot. I've been researching the Wolff Springs fix to take that 24lb D/A trigger pull down to a more manageable weight and to make the S/A trigger a bit nicer. I've read about going to the 17lb spring and how that sometimes results in mags falling out. At this point, I'm simply confused, there are so many springs and so many weight options between the 2 or 3 types of springs https://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm...s&cID=1&mID=49

Anyone go down this rabbit hole yet with their P64? What did you arrive at using and how is it working for you?

I happily went down this rabbit hole many years back. I went with a 20lb recoil spring and 18lb hammer spring, mainly because that seemed to be the most popular choice.

With the 18lb hammer spring, my DA pull now measures a very nice 10-11lb. SA is just under 2lb. The mags lock in well and has never dropped so I'm happy with the combination. I wouldn't want the SA to be any lighter. Now I am an amateur-hack-hobby-kitchen table-gunsmith and did some stoning and polishing of the moving trigger parts (did not change the sear angles). Maybe that helped...

With the 20lb recoil spring I find the felt recoil is definitely reduced, but there is still a bite. I find that if I have a tight grip it helps. I have no problem racking the slide so maybe I'll try the 22lb recoil spring to see if it makes a difference.

Yes, 20lb recoil spring and 19lb hammer spring for me, plus extra power firing pin spring

Thank you gents. Your willingness to figure this all out is appreciated so lazy bastards like me don't have to! ;-)

I'll check it out and make my decisions at least informed by two fellow Calgunners experience.

I would just buy the hammer spring pack, you get 18,19,20# springs to try. That is what I did, I may try the 18# later after I run a few mags with the 19# and if they all go bang

Just shoot mine initially in single action. Works for me.

I too did that but now, I have CCW pistols that are lighter and can carry 13+1 rounds (not that I can legally have those in California but I do have 10+1) so I have talked myself out of carrying something that is 6+1 and heavy. In my experience reloading and shooting 9x18 Mak versus 9x19, the 9x18 Mak is pretty borderline as far as penetration too. I plan on shooting some gel tests to really quantify that for myself but based upon what others have already done, .380 acp and 9x18 Mak simply aren't nearly as effective as 9x19.

I could just put the P64 on my CCW to have as a back up when hiking in case my primary goes down or something but for daily carry, I don't think I'd carry my P64 or my Bulgarian Mak. Heavy, lower capacity and the manual safeties on my plastic pistols work better and the heel release is a PITA for quick mag changes. In 2022, I don't think it makes sense to make a metal C&R your primary daily carry when we have such better options for that now but just my opinion, YMMV.

I bought the spring pack to play around with and ended up with an 18# hammer spring and 20# recoil spring. Not sure where the mag falling out comes from, I didn't experience it on either of the two P64s I thus upgraded. SA is at about 3.5# now, not sure what DA is (my gauge stops at 8.5#), but it's definitely lighter than it was. I'd say almost half as light. I didn't polish the internals.

Had one ,now my son in law has it. when i bought it the spring kit was already their. Wonderful size. poor mans 007 gun with more powerful bullet.
Pretty hard kick for sure but with a nice slip on grip it is managable.
It had a very light trigger after you rack the first round.
Miss it, would still buy one myself.

I had one previously and had to sell it. It wasn't my favorite 9x18 pistol but I like the look and you cannot beat the build quality of a Radom. I was able to buy it as part of a multi-gun deal so I thought, "Sure, why not?"
