    Should I or shouldn't I? Uberti 1873 smokewagon (update: I shouldn't)

MidwayUsa birthday price is ~$375. Black Powder percussion. It's calling to me.... Anyone have experience with this?

I have one I bought used for about that price. Seems legit to me.

I’ve only shot it once. Shot consistently left, could we’ll have just been me though. The screws also loosened up on me and the cylinder started locking up. Easy fix once I figured out WTF was going on.

The usual method of adjusting fixed sights on a SAA is to turn the barrel so the sights shoot to point of aim then find the bullet weight that also shoots to point of aim... My Colt SAA in 44 Special required a tiny bit of rotation to center the point of impact, then 240 grain bullets to bring the elevation to point of aim---gun is now shooting right to point of aim for over 25 years now...

Is that a black powder or a cartridge revolver?

It is black powder percussion - that is why it is sort of interesting to me.

Sorry I did not clarify or include the link before, here it is

              I would.

I've got a bunch of small primer 45acp brass I'm going to use for black powder loads, just for S&G. They'll be fun to shoot from the G21. May also get a conversion cylinder for my stainless long barrel 1858 Uberti too.

You have to remove the cylinder and load it from the front? Hammer and wooden dowel?

Coming back to edit and add, I think no, I would not. Too laborious for an odd ball, and that's saying something coming from the guy still trying to figure out how to make 56-46 Spencer and 1859 Sharps and Hankins cartridges.

Yeah it does seem I would need a small bench press to load it. Also the chambers are shortish and make for a small powder charge.

And I have not seen any conversion cylinders, and I guess this would not be historically accurate to anything either.

                So probably gonna pass...

My advice to anyone thinking about buying a cap and ball percussion cap and led balls style black powder revolver would be to go with a Remington 1858 also known as a Remington New Model Army or Remington smaller version that I think it's called the Remington pocket pistol black powder revolver ( or one of the more modern-day copies of those two). Unlike the more modern-looking pistol that started this thread these actually have built-in leavers to help load the lead balls.
They are quicker to change out a cylinder to a fresh loaded one and also the frame surrounding the cylinder is stronger than the Open-top designs made by Colt, like the Colt Dragoon or Colt 1860 ...etc.

And the proof of what I'm saying is true is that that's the design that Ruger Firearms decided to closely clone / copy when they made their black powder revolver.
The Ruger is also a great choice because it's made of stainless steel which might help with rust that often develops if you're using real black powder. If you can afford one and find one.

That you want one is, in my humble opinion, certainly good and sufficient reason to acquire any gun. But on this one I am going to ask why? I have several Italian replica cap and ball revolvers and love them. Cheap to shoot, no FFL paperwork needed to purchase, usually draws a crowd at the range and the stinky smoke causes great annoyance and displeasure to those downwind of you. The replicas, for the most part, come with an on board loading lever. You will need a tool to load that cylinder. ( https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1015807581?pid=167631 ) Blackpowder guns require cleaning protocol way beyond what modern gun shooters are generally used to. Substantial disassembly and wash every part you don't want to get rusty. The nipple at the back of the cylinder is a small hole out of the combustion chamber that, unlike a blackpowder cartridge gun, allows corrosives into the bowels of the gun. The replicas are designed to come apart and go back together fairly easily. And prices are comparable. Just a few thoughts. Good luck and have fun however you go.
