    FN49 Stock Compatibility

Recently got my hands on a Venezuelan FN49 but it appears that the guy who owned it before me slapped it in a 30-06 FN stock. Anyone know where I might be able to find a Venezuelan stock?
Also, it appears the receiver cover is from an Egyptian FN, can't find a replacement for that anywhere so suggestions on alternatives would be appreciated.

Sorry I have nothing that direct, but I suggest that you keep a lookout for anyone that still has Cavim .308 surplus sitting around. I bought a boat-load of the Cavim .308 from a guy back in the early 90's that had also brought back every spare FN49 part he could get his hands on. Unfortunately he passed away a couple years back.

What I'm saying is: find the guy with Cavim and there's a fair chance that he's also got some other Venezuelan gun parts laying around - but not really enough to actively advertise. Also check with people who sell FAL parts as two of my old FAL contacts were deep into the FN49's as well. I know it's not much help - but it's a place to start.

There is no known "stock" of Venezuelan FN-49 parts. The only parts available in any known numbers are from Belgian 30-06 guns.

I wouldn't bother looking for the "correct" parts as they don't exist.

Post some pics of your rifle.

I've been collecting FN-49's for 40 or so years. Here are two old pic's of what your rifle should look like.

Hang out on Gunboards, the WTS/WTB section is pretty active. Also suggest the FAL Files forum, there are some active FN49 owners there. You never know what you may find.

I recently saw an original FN-49 stock on Ebay in great condition, indicated as Venezuelan. It caught my eye but not needing it, had no interest.
