    Question about taxes

I'm in the process of getting my COE+FFL3 mainly for the purpose of cutting out the middle man and having ammo shipped to my door. My question though is how do taxes work if I order from a website that doesn't collect CA sales tax? I'm asking because whenever I had ammo shipped to an FFL here and the website doesn't collect CA sales tax, the FFL has to collect the tax. So, how would that work if I'm having it shipped to my door?

You owe tax on purchase. FTB will show you how to pay.

Very very few website sales do not collect tax anymore.

You are expected to pay a Use Tax for these purchases.
The UT rate is the same as the Sales Tax in your area.
There is a worksheet to calculate the tax and a line on your State Income Tax Return to report this "fair share" tax.

Inernet Sales Tax Changed in 2018

There was a Supreme Court ruling in June 2018 which changed the state tax liabilities for out of state sales with no physical presence in a state. Now, all but the very smallest retailers have to register and collect state tax. As others have noted, if you do have a purchase from one of the few who do not, you can remit the tax yourself.
