Wow I think you just outlined party of my dream collection. I don't know why but I love the commie guns. Don't forget he needs a Tokarev and a Makarov to go with the long guns. Might as well toss a Saiga-12 into the mix too.

Although I must admit I wish we could import some VSS Vintorez and KSVK rifles as well. And while we are dreaming I wouldn't mind a PPSh-41, PP-19, and a bunch others too, LOL

Great thread. Gotta love the C&Rs! My current wish list includes nice examples of the Hakim, Rasheed, Alby and Chinese honor guard SKS. Still love the bolts, but the C&R semis are where it's at for me (at the moment).

i gotta say i havent heard of the hakim and the rasheed before this post. i looked them both up and it looks like one is just a later model of the other. i dont know anything at all about these though so any info would be appriciated. just checked them both out on gun broker and they seem to be in my ideal price range. whats a guy gotta do to make those CA legal?

is it just me or does it look like a plane full of U.S. m1 carbines and a russian plane full of SKSs crashed over germany and landed in a mauser factory?

My understanding is that both (Hakim and Rasheed) are perfectly legal to possess, purchase, sell, shoot, collect, etc., in CA. The trick is finding one for sale that is already in the state or with an out of state seller that isn't all "no CA sales" happy. Even when that is the case, you can always have it shipped to a CA-friendly out of state FFL that will do the simple paperwork to ship the gun to CA. They usually charge a reasonable fee for their trouble; which is well worth it for that special piece that you just can't live without. There are so many out of state FFLs that seem to believe that all semi auto firearms are illegal to own in CA.

The Hakim is the long-distant Egyptian son of the Swedish Ljungman; it is the same rifle setup for 8mm Mauser as opposed to 6.5x55 Swede. The Rasheed is the 7.62x39 Carbine of the Hakim. They are all CA legal.

Here is wht the Hakim and Rasheed's Dad looks like:

check our world.guns.ru for pretty much everything. Of interest to us c&rs will be the stuff under military rifles. I think almost everything there's fair game for ca c&r.

Shot my M44 for the first time today, post 30 or so rounds and the bolt did not want to open at all! I had to pull back on the bolt to hand cock it then slap it open. was a bummer. I brought it home and poured some boiling hot water down the receiver but guess what? I did not take the stock off HEHE, The finish where the water touched the wood turned smoke grey, Ya it was real hot water. Anyhow cleaned it with solvent after the water and oiled it up. But I think I'm going to spend some more time cleaning the receiver out following the suggestions here. BTW I fixed the stock finish with some acetone on a rag and buffed it back to normal. An old furniture trick. Peace

ATI makes a nice stock for the Mosins. It has a nice thick recoil pad that makes the gun nicer to shoot...but it will totally change the look of your M38...it will look actually modern. Save your old stock though.

Here's a comparison of what the family tree looks like which started from the Swedish Ljungman as what shown above from the Doctor.

                      Top to bottom:
                      Ljungman
                      Rasheed
                      Hakim

You didn't need to go home to open your bolt. Use a rubber mallet to hit the bolt so you can open it. Spray some windex down the barrel and some clp on the bolt and around that area and then shoot some more. I personally wouldn't use boiling water since the other method works perfect for me.

Oh yeah and you need rag to wipe off all the crap that will be in the chamber and around the bolt.
