It's not a Russian capture. I've seen the two marks on the receiver between the "ce" and the "43" before. But I can't remember who is responsible for them.

The serial number marking on the STOCK is not original German I believe. Need better pictures

I also think the triangle 8 marking on the receiver is post-war

Can you take a clearer picture of the top receiver markings?

I'm pretty sure if you post a clearer picture, i can find who was responsible for the markings.

Bumping this thread without supplying a better pic isn't going to gain you more information.

It has the Nazi eagle and is dated 43. I can't read the receiver proof mark, but if it CE as stated above, Sauer. It looks like it might have mixed parts and some are refinished.

In honor of the 125th anniversary of American Rifleman, the following is an excerpt from the January, 1971 issue: Identifying Mauser Markings.

Isn't a number on the buttstock - aligned butt down - a Yugo numbering method? A number printed length wise on the left side of the buttstock - being a Soviet numbering method - ? That "R (dot)0794(dot)" number on the left side of the receiver is a mystery to me. Certainly not put on there by the Germans in WWII.

SVT-40 has forgotten more than I will ever know, so I will wait for him to state what it is. My initial thought that it was a Middle Eastern used rifle - Iraqi - seems wrong. I have failed completely to find a similar Iraqi marking - as compared to the two items between the CE and the 43 on the receiver.

                      Lol.

                      Lately, I've forgotten alot.

But I do know that the marks aren't Iraqi.

How about a different approach- how much is the store asking? If it’s $600 or less & the bore is in decent shape, it’s hard to go wrong. You could sell it for about the same. If it’s over $1000, do a lot more research before committing.
