    What's the best Tokarev?

Adding a caliber during this ammo shortage is of course ill advised, and adding a Soviet caliber is completely nuts. So I'll probably end up doing it

Thinking about something that will shoot 7.62 x 25 Tokarev. I've never shot it, but the stats are pretty impressive, and it's definitely different from everything else I have.

I like the looks of the CZ 52, but I'm interested in people's experiences with anything that will shoot this round. Which one should I get?

The Polish and Soviet sub machine gun was designed for the hot 7.62x25 ammo. I am looking to add that to my collection. To get started, I suggest looking at Chinese Type 54 because it does not have the ugly manual safety, I changed out the blade trigger with original I found on eBay. Now it becomes as close to original TT-33 Tokarev. 7.62x25 ammo is getting very expensive very fast, just this past summer I found PPU and S&B for $0.65 per round, but now they are over $1.00 a round. A reloader friend offered to help reload, but components especially pistol 30 cal .309 bullets are hard to find.

Personally, I am looking for Soviet Tokarev TT-33 made prior to 1945 and preferably prior to 1941, and without that import mandated abomination - thumb safety. Round itself have very impressive statistics, especially for the times.

          That round is impressive TODAY.

Ironically I picked up a Zastava M57 Tokarev during the pandemic because the price was low and 7.62x25mm was still available.

I’d recommend this model if you have bigger hands; the M57 uses a slightly longer frame to accommodate a 9 round magazine instead of the 8 round magazine found in most other Tokarev pistols.

I was looking at a CZ52 about 10 years ago when Turners had them for $200. A web search showed concerns about shooting hot surplus ammo in one. So I passed because my plan was to buy surplus ammo for 9 cents per round in bulk (spam can).

Since I reload I got a 357sig barrel for my XD40 instead and load 88g HP HV ammo for it to get similar ballistics.

The Yugo M57 or recent Chinese with the "glock safety". Easy to exchange the trigger to former glory.

M57 is nice. In my experience m57 has a bigger bore around .310- .312. In the way its better cause I use .32 pills. Using .308 or .309 projectiles and target looks like a 12 gauge buckshot. .311 or .312 projectiles made a nice tight pattern at 20 yards.

got a chineses 213 and a cz52 the cz52 is a really interesting design i would really hate to chose they are both in 9mm currently as i only have 8 boxes of tokarev nine if you count the one box of s&b that is missing 8 i have a couple thousand rounds of 9mm and the dirt clot the bullet eventually hits doesn't complain

I have both a Zastava M57 and a Chinese M54. IMO they shoot roughly the same, but the Yugo pistol has a much nicer fit and finish.

Ok, a bit of a trivia question. Did anyone ever saw new Russian made 7.62x25 ammo? I looked everywhere for wolf, tula, etc.. nobody makes new Russian ammo to my knowledge. Only 2 countries still produce new 7.62x25. Serbia and Check republic. Fun fact that both of them where reluctant to switch to 9x18 pistols during Soviet times.
My parents have Russian TV and from watching local news bad guys and good guys for self defense use 7.62x25 or a Bollo version of .30 Mauser left over from WW2. Good guys usually leave body's outside and no one knows what happened. Not a lot of Makarov use over there unless they somewhat connected.
So did anyone ever saw new not a surplus Russian made 7.62x25?
