1905 Colt Officers Model Shipping question

I have a 1st model (made in 1905) Colt Officers Model 38 Special. Can I sell this directly to another guy in this state (Ca.)? Can I ship a C&R out of state myself not using a dealer? Was the store being overly cautious when they sold me this gun following all procedures that you go thruogh buying a brand new pistol? Since I'm in California I think I kinda know the answers to these questions but any info will be appreciated. Thanks

In state all C&R pistols have to go thru an 01FFL - You can ship it yourself if the dealer will accept from a non-dealer -
