    Smith Corona 1903A3

I was wondering what information you folks could give me based on the photos. I know the receiver was made in August 1943 and the barrel in July 1943 (has 7 43 and SC stamped on it). Front sight has a hood on it. Tried the Google search, but found out there is little information about the Smith Corona. I know very little about 1903A3 rifles. I tried posting on the CMP forum, but can't for some reason.

    Thanks

I can tell you off the top of my head that the "OG" inspector stamp means it went through the Ogden arsenal and the actual inspector was Lt. Colonel Frank J. Atwood, hence the FJA.

My Remington 1903-A3 is marked OG and FJA same as yours. It's my early Eddystone that is actually marked 'OGEK' for none other than Ogden / Elmer Keith, of the famous N-frame and magnum cartridges aficionado.

Great looking rifle. You can also read more information specifically about the Smith-Corona M1903A3 rifles at these websites:

Nice looking rifle for sure. My SC is cool but in a different way. PAX

Thanks for the information!! I learned the "HO 35" stamped on the top of the bolt handle was the lot number to the steel that was used to make the bolt. The stock is "SC" as well as the trigger guard, and the bolt has the scalloped cut so its a "SC".

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Any more information??

                  thanks!!

Have you had the top guard off?

I got a neat surprise when I took my 9-43 barrel dated SC apart. Turns out it went through a Australian refurb in February of 1945.

The rifle retained all it's SC parts during the Aussie refurb.

Rather than go through a rehash on how to tell what is a S-C part and what is a Remington part, here is a link to a post I did a while back on the differences between Remington and Smith-Corona '03-A3's.
