    The Mini Mosin

    Hello all,

Some of you may have seen these before, but I bought one for my son last year and we shot it for the first time this weekend, so here is my report.

This is essentially a Cricket rifle, with the same operating mechanism used on those rifles.
The difference with this one is that it is made up to look exactly like a miniature 91/30.
The fit and finish is very well done. It does in fact perfectly resemble a 91/30. There is even a Soviet style star on the top of the receiver.

The rear notch site is windage and elevation adjustable with a couple of small screws. I was able to adjust it with a small pocket flathead.

It is drilled and tapped for a scope mount. Unlike the regular Cricket rifles, this one has an open notch and post, which my son liked way better than the receiver-mounted peep sight that the regular Crickets have. While counterintuitive to us old farts, I preferred open sights as a kid and my son also seems to. He had a lot easier time aiming this one than his cousin's regular Cricket, that's for sure. He can learn to appreciate peeps when he gets a bit older.

While overpriced at $400, the delight my kid had in shooting it was well worth the money. And the fact that it tickled dad's C&R fancy helped too....

They do have mini replica slings with dog collars, and I am tempted to order one (although those are overpriced too).

Anyhow....thought you'd all appreciate this little review. Have a great evening. Cheers.

I saw one in a shop about a year ago, during the early-middle part of the pandemic. At the time, I thought "kinda neat but over-priced." But seeing the smile on your kid's face, it's hard to argue it isn't a good buy for you. And yes, you gotta get the dog collar sling!

That is the coolest 22 rifle ever!

I read that they will be making other WW2 mini rimfires like the Mauser and Enfield.

For a minute there, I thoughts it was the Polish Mosin trainer.

400 bucks comparatively is alot. But the accuracy and workmanship of it seems worth every penny in my opinion.

I saw at SHOT show and I was like price is too beaucoup. I've only seen them at SoCal gun shops two times many others probably feel the same way.

Most kids won't care if it looks like a Mosin Nagant or not in most cases I'd just get a standard Chipmunk type rifle. I've seen reference to fancier Chipmunk type rifles like with engraving or bull barrels but I've never seen on in person.

The most unusual one I've come across was one in 17HMR that I picked up I also had a very early Medford OR produced Chipmunk.

I think I score these cheap when gramps buys one for the grandkid and the kid shows no interest or the Karen type mom refuses to let him teach her child about guns.

Do you have to slam the handle twice with an open palm to operate the bolt like areal Mosin?

                          Magazine capacity?
Does it load with a stripper clip?

Well done, sir, that smile is a great reward.

For those who want a small rimfire rifle for their kid, but $400 is too dear, there are many C&R .22 rifles available that last forever.

It's a single shot. You have to cock it manually after chambering a round.
