    Debating doing something silly

Well the Arisaka/nambu bug has bit me harder than I would have thought. Currently in order to satisfy this itch I have been thinking of parting with a couple pistols that I am not particularly attached to, one of which is the 1974 Detonics Combatmaster I picked up. I enjoy looking at the thing but really don't like shooting it just because its a very early one and in near mint condition. Now do I keep saving up for more Japanese guns, or sell the Combatmaster. Only concern I have is that I probably will not find another in that condition in California.

Sell what you're tired of or no longer interested in, and by what your current fancy longs for. That's my policy, guns out guns in....I just try to keep my interest and collection current and interesting.

the longest I've kept a firearm that I didn't shoot was 11 years. It was a 98% Colt New Service .45 that I was afraid I'd do something stupid to and break it or blow it up. I finally sold it (for a very nice profit). If I don't shoot 'em, they go.

That's my view, as well. I get hot for a branch of collecting, buy and enjoy those for a while, then get interested in some other branch of the tree. When that happens, I sell the Old Loves to fund acquisition of the New Loves.

I'm also in the camp of selling it. Even as a collector I don't buy a firearm I don't intend to shoot, and have gone to great lengths to even bring many firearms that arguably shouldn't be shot back into shooting condition. It's also why I stay away from firearms in mint or close to mint condition because I know that value is going to tank dramatically the moment I empty a clip/magazine out of it.

Since a gun like the Detonics has no real interest for me I would have no problem in selling it to fund something else.

Generally speaking, I try not to sell any firearms unless I really need the money. I have sold off a collection or two in the past and when my interest wound up being rekindled in what I sold, I had to replace those guns at much higher price than what I let them go for. In some instances I have never been able to reacquire certain items.

I shoot everything I have including the matching numbers surplus. If you have it just collecting dust I would sell it.
