Ok to fly into SFO with ammo? (CA resident with FFL3)

    I have an FFL3+CoE.

I purchased some ammo in Colorado. Can I legally check it into my baggage for my flight to SFO?

Do CA residents flying into SFO with ammo get hassled until they show their FFL3+CoE?

P.S. My airline has no problem with small amounts of ammo in checked baggage.

      You’re okay.

      Don’t overthink it.

      That’s CA thinking.

Do you have to declare ammo in checked bags, even if there is no firearm present?

I saw from the TSA website that I do need to declare the ammo to my airline.

As long as it meets the airlines policy as far as how it needs to be packed and the maximum allowed by weight, you should have no issues.

I have flown back from Nevada after a FS class with leftover ammo and have never had an issue. Ammo can't be loose and should be in original packaging or some sort of case like one of those plastic ammo boxes.

Thanks everyone. I'm always concerned about violating some obscure regulation...

I did find another solution though. I shot up all my rounds at a range Nothing to bring back

You might check out the local vs home prices and availability before your return.
                    Shipping would be free.
