    Yugo 24/47

So I stopped by a local Big5 today, and spotted a rifle I've never held in person before.

They had a near-Cherry Yugo 24/47 for sale. Numbers matched, still coated in cosmo (which I LOVE), beautiful stock, and it had the cleaning rod and the sight hood. Probably had 98% of the bluing left too.

They are asking $300, but the manager said it would probably go on sale soon.

I am sooo tempted to buy it. I have a special connection with Mausers. Does anyone have one? Are they good rifles? Mediocre? For a matching rifle, would $300 be too much for it? Or if it goes on sale, is it a good deal?

I've been looking for another Mauser for weeks now and can't seem to find one I like or for a reasonable price, other than this Yugo.

I have one and it's quite nice shooter. I got mine for 100 dollars in a FTF. I'm not sure how much a great matching rifle is though. See how much it goes for during the sale.

I bought mine from J&G Sales for 149 plus shipping. The rifle looks almost brand new. You have to figure in the cost of the DROS fee when you buy these at Big 5, but if its around 150-200 thats a good price. A plus is that you actually see the rifle you are buying.

It was 2 weeks ago, and the reciever matches the mag floor plate and the bolt. The stock has the same number as well, I didn't know Yugo Mausers had matching stocks.

200-250 should get you a matching fine condition 24/47. See if you can butter up that manager about the "sale" price timing and go get it.

I think it was 2 to 3 years back that I got it in a FTF.

I got mine from Big 5 Pasadena for $89.99 about two years ago. I think it was $229 but it was on sale every couple months. I really wanted a K98 at the time and didn't have by C&R, so I settled for the 24/47. It looks a lot like the Germans' WWI Mauser. It's a very accurate gun. I remember my magazine spring broke and I had to order a new one from Numrich. A lot of it's accuracy has to do with its very long barrel. It's in the middle of the picture. I learned about cosmoline with that gun!

I have one that I got from Samco. It was in NEW condition (rearsenaled).

It shoots great and is a great conversation starter at the range.

It is also LOUD! Which makes it even more fun. . .

I paid $179 at Big 5 for mine. It was "unissued". Mine san only shoot as good as I can see. It's my favorite mil-surplus gun to shoot.

a little voice told me to visit the big 5 in simi valley and what did I find but a m24/47 in real pretty shape. pretty bore, nice blueing, nice walnut stock and all matching #. couldn`t resist picking it up. sale starts june 14 at $249.99. that`s what I paid for mine today. all you got to do is ask for the sale price. majority of m24/47 are from captured german army 7.92 mauser that have been converted too m24 configuration.

Actually the 24/47 was the model 24 updated in 47. The m48 was I believe from captured k98.

The M48s was manufactured from 1950-65 at the Zastava (Red Banner Works) factory. The scrubbed captured German K98s were called M98/48N, and the M48BO (without markings) sometimes used scrubbed German parts.

24/47 are nice. I got a very nice one from Big 5 a few years back.

So is there a recommended stock oil to use with these? I used Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil but that builds up a waxy finish with multiple applications.
