    41 42 byf Lugers

Been looking for a 1941 or 1942 byf Luger for some time now. Missed out on a nice on here a month or so ago.

Don't need a collection of them. Only want one clean byf bw with nice with a matching rig... Then this video pops up, lol.

I know a lot of fanboy's of this channel will be adding it to their list

Crazy how youtube and social media can change the market so fast like it did to tacomas, gx460's, landcruisers. I'm hoping it won't affect prices more than they're already are now.

To all the Luger experts, what's too much for a clean 41' 42' byf black widow?

Don’t get hung up on Black Widow Lugers. They are really nothing special and the name is made up, as I recall, by a US importer many years after the war ended.

Thanks for the heads up. I did learn that it was made up by an American, but still drank the cool aid. But I hear you, the black grips do look nice, just as the wood does too.

But I'm partial to the mauser factory and being a wartime issue sidearm.

I think I've seen them much higher. I guess it's all in the condition for those years. Thanks John for your input.

There's way too much to just give a dollar amount. Condition is important obviously, but if you had matching mags, matching part numbers, it's history, rarity, etc. There wasn't anything super special about the Black Widow, other than the name.

Be patient and you can get a good deal on one for less than $2000. Maybe a little less if you successfully haggle, but that price comes with matched number, legit markings and a decent finish.

Collector grade higher...but who wants a safe queen?

For a complete set up with holster and matching spare magazine, I would expect to pay around $2500 depending on condition. The closer you get to 100% finish the closer you are going to get to four grand.

While I like my guns to be as nice as possible, I usually settle for what I can afford. I also wanted a WWII Luger and found a 85-90% (ish) 1937 S/42 at a gun show for $1500. The gun and magazine had matching numbers but the spare mag didn't match and the tool was missing from the holster. Still, I am quite satisfied with it and I like that it looks like it actually went to war.

I think the best chance to find what you are looking for would be to contact Legacy Collectables. He isn't cheap, but he has nice stuff and his descriptions of his items are accurate.

                Under 2000 is more agreeable
Where are you looking at for these collectables? I hear you on the black grips marketing thing. I know legacy is probably at premium prices.

I'm just looking for a 41/42 byf P08 and K98 to enjoy. It can be a collector grade, but I'll be sure to shoot them! Life's too short. I was going to wait till I retired but that 20yrs came up quick. It's just around the corner, ...so here I am.

Thanks for your input on what to expect.

Thanks Highpower. I'd be happy with what your picked up. 85-90% is good with me. I agree the history is what makes it so interesting. Much appreciate the Legacy mention. Looking around I'm thinking to myself, this is probably a place where you pay a premium.

It's kinda sad, I know these collections most likely came from collectors that have passed. I remember about 5-8yrs ago, a widow came into turners one day with a trunk full of lugers. Turners guy picked them up for less than nothing, under 500 if I remember. Once they got them cataloged they was selling at the 2k mark.

So, that was my decision to just get one. Can't take it with you.

I'll have to check out some shows out of state. Haven't been to one since the 90's here in CA.
