    M1 Carbine Stock

Just picked up an arsenal reworked (no import) Winchester complete barreled action with trigger group and would like to know the best source for a Winchester stock. I already have an "all early" Inland and an issue folder stock. I suppose I could drop this in the folder, or put the Inland in the folder as that would be correct, and use the WInchester in the Inland wood stock, but I'd rather take a shot at being as correct as I can.

For a temp solution, best to find used GI type or modern repro?

What's ballpark OK $$$ on a Winchester stock?

I have a feeling I may end up at a gun show checking out stocks face to face.

If it's already been arsenal reworked, the parts are probably not correct for as manufactured, so why worry about the correct stock? Also, dropping it into a folder in this stupid state (CA) would be manufacturing an AW.

Looking at stock prices I'm seriously considering that POV.

Re the folder, I have a home in Oregon. Have brought about 30 of the "fun stuff" up there thus far. Figure I should enjoy it while I can.

This. Just get a decent M2 type potbelly stock used would be the most "correct" for a rebuild anyways, and a better stock than an early one frankly. Usually the Dupauge (sp?) stocks are great, also for new ones.
Of course you can find a Winchester one, but it probably will take some time. And there were several variations of them through the run, so technically you'll not only have to find a Winchester stock, but the right version for your serial number which really narrows it down.
But either way, good luck and have fun

I unfortunately have the worst of both worlds, for now.

Can't buy as an OR resident, have to do a transfer to CA on whatever I buy. I get to do a lot of "look but don't buy" unless it's C&R stuff.

18 months. Last time I left a place so eagerly it was on a JATO C130 with an M-60 on my lap.

A friend just gave me a stock and matching handguard. Very nice walnut.
Handguard is a two rivet, recoil plate is a Rockola and the stamping inside the oiler/web cutout reads "RMC" - no other markings, stamps. Definitely not a potbelly, don't know what it is, though it's in great shape.

That's a Rock-Ola stock. If it's not already got the wood grain imprinted with the wider Type II/III barrel band, don't do that by throwing your (likely) wider barrel band on it and tightening it down. It's a telltale sign that a rifle was cobbled together or "restored" from pieces.
Nice score, for sure. Possibly good trade material if it's in collector condition still.
However it sounds like it's been heavily sanded, because it should have a round cartouche on the side of the butt stock with the crossed cannons.

Thanks and yes, no cartouche on the right side of the stock.
