Fascinatingly good looking for a replica. The real irony is the asking price - same or more than an original will go for!

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

The collecting of Modelguns is quite a specialized pursuit in Japan.
Firearms ownership is heavily restricted so these are what you get.

Sort of like the collectors in the UK spending $8K and more on a welded up and completely inert machine-gun.

Yes; I've seen that for some time. I learned of that several years ago when I saw pseudo-working replicas of Mateba Unicas selling on Ebay for north of $800, aligned with the "Ghost in the Shell" anime series.

Odd though - however, expect that to be a thing in California in the future if things continue on the legislative path they're on. Nice to see we have millions more gun owners in CA, but they are not showing any indication of taking up the reigns to defend the 2nd Amendment in the slightest. One can hope, but I'm not seeing it.

Not to mention, CA has already banned replicas in various capacities and forms.

These new gun owners are spurious and for the moment kind of buyers - they'll happily be placated and pacified by plastic replicas and baubles so long as they've got an EBT card, Netflix, Nike, and Weed.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Most of these new gun owners haven't been in the trenches long enough to feel like they have any vested interest in protecting their 2nd Amendment rights.

As an aside, I was looking at a Shoei replica of a FG42 the other day and from a foot away you couldn't tell it from an original. Honestly I would have bought it if they weren't asking $1700 for it. Later on I found out that is what they sell for. Too rich for my blood, but in reality with what real transferable FG42's sell for and the five and a half grand the semi's command, that might be as close as I would ever get to having one.

That, of course, is an anecdote. But would those individuals have known or bothered pre-Covid? If enough constituents from the Democratic Party turn their backs on stringent gun control and become better informed, who knows what could happen?
Hoping so, but like anything, I still think examples of your story will prove to be ones and twos, out of every thousand - no different than the very existence of Calguns.net and numbers of membership in the NRA and/or CRPA has proven through the past 2 decades - about the same proportion, one per thousand - IF that!!

Estimates place the number of legal/law-abiding gun owners to be 4.2 million California.

Yet there are only 5 Million NRA members NATIONWIDE!

And there are ONLY about 30,000 CRPA members. (Pathetic).

            As of this post:

Calguns.net Active Members: 25,039 - Willing to bet only about 1/5th are NRA or CRPA members.

Calguns.net Members: 335,277 - this doesn't mean much - because there have been so many spammers/Nigerians/bots joining over the years, not to mention proven duplicate accounts by those previously banned or shilling - even the Antis have created member-accounts here. In reality, it's always only ever been between 20,000 and 25,000 of real people, and even then there are likely duplicate accounts.

That P-38 looks real, even up close.
I've got a select fire MGC Thompson I would love to shoot, but the price of the reloadable blanks for it, makes ammo prices today look cheap!
