Help ID old helmet

It appears to be an M1 helmet shell. Issued from 1941-1985. I've never seen an accurate number of total produced, but 10s of millions would be a good start.

It's an old steel pot. I was in the Marines in 1986 and we were issued kevlar.

Post it in the Calguns for sale ads and be sure to list it as "ultra-rare steel pot."

It might be worth something if you can get Jane Fonda to autograph it.

Yes, It's an an American helmet; the outer shell without the liner. That's the type I was issued in the Corp 1959-63.

My mom found this at a garage sale. Can anyone ID it? I can’t find any stamps or markings.

What do the markings inside it say? If it's US made there are markings. There were also foreign made copies.

US made will have a few numbers and a letter... Maybe other markings too. Look in the front right behind the bend for the "visor".

It's a rear seam swivel bale M1 helmet. From the shape, I'd guess late WW2 to '50s.

I'd recognize that steel pot anywhere.

I myself wouldn't wear it. I wouldn't want to take another chance of some yahoo on Hollywood Blvd taking
more shots at me, again, with a 8mm obsolete bolt action Mauser. Remember, this is California.

No one buckled the chin strap when I first joined allegedly because a near-by explosion would blow the helmet off the head and break your neck. I think no one did the strap because you looked like Gomer Pyle with it buckled. Later on we all received paratrooper-type chin straps and orders to use them. With no chin strap on, the helmet was either held on with a free hand when running or diving for cover or it flew off even with the nape strap properly adjusted.

One more time having a third hand would have come in handy.

With a full pack and the shelter half rolled on top, in the prone position it was damn near impossible to raise your head without dumping the helmet over your eyes.

Sometimes they are very lightly stamped. It takes a flashlight to see them.
