91/30s and Finnish M39s these days.....

    Hey Gents,

Back in the $79 dollar Big 5 Mosin days and early C&R frenzy I had a bunch of Russian rifles. I paired them down over the years to a nice pre war 1935 hex Mosin and a really nice antique receiver Sako M39. They have been safe queens for easily 10 years now. I take them out and stare at them but never take them to the range since I can't shoot all this surplus steel core...

Now, I see crazy prices on Gun Broker and on Calguns. I'm heavily thinking of unloading these rifles. If I'm not shooting them what's the point of keeping. So.....can you guys do two things for me?

1: Give me the realistic range these are selling for. (I see completed sales on GunBroker) those can't be real prices, or are they?

2: Convince me NOT to sell these.

    Thanks,

    Conflicted

Some of the values are inflated just because of the general demand for guns, any guns. Not necessarily because there's suddenly lots of Mosin collectors. I expect when things ease up, prices across the board will drop - some. But we'll see lots of sellers listing guns into 2022 at 2020/21 prices, and that will keep prices higher-ish. If you're wanting some cash, now is probably the best you'll get for a while. C&R guns in general though will continue to climb in value I think - there's no more crates of Mosins coming in like there used to be. I still think that most on GB are overpriced, I can't see demanding a premium when there's literally hundreds of auctions there of nearly identical rifles. They just aren't that rare. If you look at something actually less common, like a Lebel 1886, where there is maybe one available at any given time, sure that'll get some $$.

Im actually pretty curious about this as well, Ive got what I think is a pretty nice M39, I shoot it once in a while, everyone who has ever shot it wants to buy it.

Haven't really followed M39 prices, but have heard they are selling for $$ these days, maybe fueled by the general high demand for guns. An antique receiver will probably add a bit more value. I'd hold on to the M39, low production numbers compared to 91/30s. The first M39 I got from Big 5 was $59...

M39's got a lot of love on Youtube from various channels a couple years ago and it really drove up the price. They realistically run 500-900 depending on details.

$800-950 is getting up there. Yeah, wish I'd picked up a few more at $59 back then....

Try $49 Turk Mausers and $49 M38’s and 91/30’s... of course I was making $4.25/hr then.

If you sell them now, you will never get them back for a reasonable price. At least keep one, for historical reference.

I have a few brand new M39s and 91/59 carbines I have never shot even some new M48 Yugo Mauser's.

Talk me out of them I might just go for the big bucks. LOL

Invest in a cheap press. Pull the steel core bullets and reload with regular bullet. No need to resize, trim, clean, prime. Easy peasy

Sell the hex, keep the M39. Use the proceeds from the M91/30 towards buying a press & reloading components for x54. Make range-friendly ammo for the M39, and enjoy.

I'm sort of tempted to let mine go, I've got an M44 and a T53, plus like 2k rounds. Easy way to make a buck but I don't really need the money.

I could sell them and buy something cooler (more space limited than strapped for cash). But the M44 is pretty cool. I have a think for big clunky folding bayonets.

We're not out of Mosins in the world right? It's just they can't be imported right now?
