No Papered SKS

I don't know if I've posted these before, but here's some poor picts of my undocumented SKS bring back.
I bought the story, the rifle was cheap, cheaper than the going rate at the time.

The scoop I got was from the Nam vet's widow. He had passed recently and she just wanted his crap gone. All she said as I headed out the door was: "He brought it back from over there". I didn't press for any details, as there was a marked sense of urgency to vacate the premises. Didn't know the folks personally, but there looked to be tension about.

The rifle's stock, TG, mag, receiver cover, and bolt match, the bolt carrier doesn't. It's in the 7 million range, '62/'63? It had a saggy bayo that I swapped but have since put the original back. Lots of wear at the muzzle, and it shoots really crappy. And of course no import stamp for what ever that's worth.

I think I only had about 5 or 6 SKSs when I picked this one up, and was I still pretty green about the platform. It and an FN49 were the last Kali Cash & Carry guns I bought.
It looks the part, and for me it's the real deal, as I won't be parting with anymore SKSs anytime soon. PAX

Which image hosting site are you using OP? If Imgur, then use the Medium size option rather than Original. That'll help size it down.

these springs are the tropical connectors for the sling. leather doesn't last, especially in RVN.

when you copy photos be sure to Inspect their properties if you don't already know. this image is 648x483. generally image size should be no more than 800x800 on forums. maybe the forum you posted on has an automatic resizing feature.

Pretty cool! Looks like the Chinese SKS I bought from an E6 in '78 that he had brought back from VN. I didn't know about capture papers back then and never asked for them. The only ammo I could find was SAKO and U.S. clandestine 7.62x39 so I eventually sold it, just before the wave of Chinese ammo hit the country.

The stove looks in better shape than the rifle.
However, both seem to be serviceable.
Good thing your not selling, shipping would cost an arm and half a leg.

The SKS was never that accurate to start with. Clean it best you can - if it's been pitted by corrosive ammo, you'll want the bbl professionally refinished/restored, and accept it for what it is. Or make a trophy/wallhanger out of it.
