Remington Model 30 Express

I just picked one up thats in unadulterated decent shape. Serial 8xxx so its an early one. The background of that rifle is awesome and I find it really interesting. Anyone have any tips, suggestions or advice for things to look out for such as mechanics, parts prone to failure, etc? Thanks guys and happy new year!

Are you sure it is an express? I believe the express came into existence somewhere around 1926/1927 with serial number around 30,000+/-. I will need to confirm these dates.

Based on the serial number, I am assuming it is chambered for the .30-06 Springfield and not another cartridge.?

What's is the barrel length?
If the barrel length is 20-inches, you might have the uber rare "carbine" version.

Update 1/3/2020 6:55pm: According to Wiki, only the First 3000 were Model 30, the remaining 22,800+ were the express model. 30,800 total production run. Sounds like you have a Model 30 Express.

What caliber?
According to Remignton's website, https://www.remington.com/firearm-hi...del-30-express the express came in .30-06 Springfield, .25 Rem, .30 Rem, .32 Rem, .35 Rem, 7x57 Mauser, and .257 Roberts.

I am still trying to find one in 7x57.

Barrel code ET so born October 1926
@870classic - measuring with a rod to the breechface the barrel is 21.5" so I guess its the common 22".

So one of the most entertaining things about C&R hunting is the stories behind everything ranging from the gun to the salesman. So here's my story with this. I was perusing the barren racks at a local shop I halted at this old rifle with a shorter barrel, schnabel forearm, and a dog leg bolt handle. I ask to see it. The salesman was like ohhh yea this old thing. He says that finding ammo for it is going to be super hard because it's this rare 30 Springfield...I reply saying innnnnteresting, I don't think that'll be a problem haaha. I thought he was joking but when he started to do the DROS he couldn't find the caliber in the list! haaha.

I'm very happy and excited about this find. One thing that's super cool is that I can use clips!..I have to find some now haaha.

when you go looking for clips you'll find people are very proud of their U.S.G.I. clips, even with broken tabs.

standard 7mm mauser clips work. the two bump style.

Interesting that rifle would never have happened without Winchesters metallurgy and heat treating technology. Winchester used it to develop the Model 54, that evolved into the Model 70. Remington used it for the Model 30, that was the ground work for the Model 720, that evolved into the Model 700.
Never understood why Remington only chambered one of the strongest actions in low pressure calibers, except for the 30/06. It can easily handle any of the belted magnums.
Around 1932, Remington did a re-design to cock on opening.
Dooder, I believe yours is a Model 30A, the rear sight was moved to the barrel, and the receiver sight sight was omitted, but the receiver was still D&T'ed for the sight.
BTW....Sweet find! Does it cock on opening?
