Need help W/ Cabellas 54 cal

I'm thinking about buy one and I have some concerns about the rust. It's been used pretty well but the chrome lining in the barrel is flawless. $150 with 3 lbs powder, lots of various rounds, all all the loading tools. Good buy???

        Deal.

Smokin' hot deal with the powder and accoutrements. As long as the metal and wood are solid you can clean it up to a proper state of defarbment. Check stock for cracks and missing chunks of wood. Good luck.

Its the rust that concerned me. But ya, for nearly free at this price I wanted to make sure and not have a desk sized paperweight

Use a little Kroil or some other penetrating oil and you'll probably get that nipple out fairly easily.

On black powder guns bore condition is everything. If the bore is good and the lock system works, the rest is elbow grease and cosmetics.

I have a Cabelas .54 as well and it shoots sabots really well. I also got it for cheap, although mine is a lot prettier than yours.

I would pass on that one. The breech end of the bore most likely looks just like the nipple area.
Run a tight patch down the barrel and feel for rough spots. If any that would be crud at the least, or more likely pitting. Drop a shiny ball bearing or a nickel .38 case down the bore and look down it with a flashlight.
                Try and get the powder.

Just my 2 cents worth, but at that price you just can not go wrong.
